The annual South African Music Concert is hosted by the North-West University and this year there will be two different concerts. This is the first concert that will feature music by Jaco Meyer, Hannes Taljaard, Chris van Rhyn, Miles Warrington and Mauro Zanolli. “Lament en route to Auschwitz” by Jaco Meyer for flute and electronics will be performed for the first time by George Fazakas.
My choral composition, Noag se ark, will be performed by the Laerskool Mooirivier Junior Choir at the Potch Choir Festival on 24 May 2019 at 18:30. This composition was commissioned by the choir. It will be conducted by Michelle Hendriks, piano: Christelle Engelbrecht, flute: George Fazakas, and cello: Charles Oliver. Tickets will be sold at the door.
Lament en route to Auschwitz for flute and electronics was commissioned by the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) for the flautist George Fazakas. The electronics that accompany the flute for this composition were created using war sounds and Jewish prayers. The electronics were created in ProTools – an excerpt of the ProTools session is shown in the picture above. Rehearsals (with electronics) for this work will start in April 2019. Updates with more details will be posted soon.
