An integrative approach to music and theory
My article An integrative approach to music and theory is aimed at teachers who are concerned about a convergent relationship between the practical and theoretic syllabi of the UNISA piano graded examinations. I hope to provide teachers with the necessary tools in order to support them in optimising their teaching. The tables presented in this article are practical solutions: they can help teachers to facilitate their students in choosing pieces, and inform teachers which practical requirements are not corresponding with the theory. This will also enable teachers to be more prepared when they start with these pieces. Due to limitations in space, I focused on UNISA Pregrade 1 to Grade 3 in this article and only indicated the practical requirements that are not corresponding with the theoretical syllabus.
